A few years ago, God spoke to me and said, “gather 12 stones.” I was not completely sure why at the time, but I proceeded. At first, I ask God what kind of stones? And in a still quiet voice, I heard Him say, "it is not the stones that are important, just do what I ask!" I quickly replied, "ok."
I remember being very concerned about the stones at first but quickly remembering what God said. It was my obedience he required at this point and so I continued looking for stones. Over the next several weeks I continued to pray. Not sure of what kind of stones I was looking for but... I was looking!
Then, I was over at my son's house while my husband was working one day. It was there that I found my first stone. My husband asks me, "What are you doing?" I replied, "looking for rocks honey." He shook his head.
I must have looked ridiculous, walking around looking for rocks. I went for a short walk and still trying to wrap my brain around these rocks. When all the sudden I looked down and found my first rock. Nowhere special just in my son's front yard. No matter what I knew deep in my spirit God had a reason and I just need to be obedient and see what He had in store for me.
As I continued to seek God. After studying and lots of prayers. I started searching different scriptures about the stones and writing them down. But it was this one scripture that stood out to me. It was in Revelation 2:17.
17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
Immediately there was excitement that came all over me. I understood now why He wanted me to collect them. I sat in Awe of what God showed me! Not only was He giving me insight, but I knew I was going to be victorious and this was my hidden manna.
Then I heard Him say, "these stones are to be a reminder of what I have brought you through!"
I get it now!
Now, when my family, children, and grandchildren ask what are those stones, Mimi?
I can tell them, "these stones are a memorial and reminder of what God has not only done but taught me how to listen." The Stones have become a teaching tool, a witness in my house, and passing them on from this generation to the next.
These are my stones. I used an old vase to display mine and sharpies to write my scriptures on each rock.
How great is our God!
Since the collecting of my stones. I have found a new way to collect and create the Stones of Remembrance. I was shopping one day at the dollar store and found some smooth river rocks at the dollar store and a medium glass candle jar. What a great idea! It works, and there are exactly twelve stones in a bag for a dollar. This becomes an attractive decorative WITNESS piece for any shelf.
Now, I do have to say that it was a little difficult at first, finding the stones. But searching for the stones can be a great way to get outdoors while you are praying and seeking God. Once you have your stones. Then it's time to make your memorial. This makes a great craft to do with homeschooling, grand babies, Sunday school class. Well, just about anyone.
I also recommend typing and print your scriptures out and then mod-podge them on each rock. Or you can use Sharpie paint pens too. Before you display.
My hope is that you to seek God and make your own “Stones of Remembrance” to remind you and your family of what God has brought you through!
Joshua 4:20-24
20 And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan. 21 He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord, your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea[a] when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. 24 He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.”

This is awesome! I started painting rocks last year during Covid, but recently I have been led to use the rocks I found to decorate and write scripture on. Last year I had always written on the back "Psalm 91",
but now I am called to actually write scripture on the rocks. :)
Just this week the Lord spoke to me about a stone ministry. I'm going to start today!
